Placements24 invites applications for a Senior Geologist to join our client in Sandton, Gauteng. The role focuses on underground mining geoscience, resource estimation, and providing insights to optimize operations with mine planning, exploration and safety in mind.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's or Master's in Geology with 7+ years in exploration or mine geology, and hands-on proficiency with Leapfrog, Vulcan, and MinePlan. Travel to sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or related field.
• 7+ years experience in exploration or mine geology with underground focus.
• Proficiency in geological modelling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, MinePlan).
• Experience with resource estimation techniques and reporting codes (e.g., JORC, SAMREC).
• Strong understanding of geological processes in SA deposits.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and sampling in underground mine environments.
• Develop and maintain 3D geological models of ore bodies.
• Perform resource and reserve estimations adhering to industry standards (JORC, SAMREC).
• Collaborate with mine planning engineers to define optimal mine layouts and extraction sequences.
• Provide geological support during drilling campaigns, including core logging and data interpretation.
• Monitor and analyze geological data to identify potential risks and opportunities.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and technicians.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
