Job summary

Placements24 in Randburg, Gauteng, is seeking a Senior Geologist to lead resource evaluation and geological modelling for mineral deposits. You will support mine planning and feasibility studies while mentoring junior staff.

The role requires 7+ years in mineral exploration, expertise in 3D modelling software (Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Surpac, MinePlan), and strong interpretation, communication, and leadership abilities for stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology or a related Earth Science discipline.
7+ years of relevant experience in mineral exploration and resource geology.
Experience with 3D geological modelling software Leapfrog Geo, Vulcan, Surpac, MinePlan.
Ability to perform mineral resource estimations and write compliant technical reports.
Qualified Person (QP) or Competent Person (CP) status is advantageous.
Willingness to travel to site locations.

Responsibilities

Lead geological data collection, interpretation and analysis for resource evaluation projects.
Develop and refine 3D geological models using drill hole and assay data.
Perform mineral resource estimations per industry standards (JORC/SAMREC).
Collaborate with mine planning engineers, geophysicists and other specialists.
Prepare geological reports, presentations and documentation for stakeholders.
Mentor junior geologists and geological technicians.
Ensure quality and integrity of geological data, databases and reporting systems.
Contribute to exploration and resource development program planning.
Stay updated on best practices in geological modelling and resource estimation.
Conduct peer reviews of geological models and resource estimates.
