Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geologist to join our mining client in Benoni, Gauteng. The candidate will provide expert geological input to optimize operations, lead core logging, and develop 3D models for resource estimation.

The role requires 8+ years in economic or mining geology, postgraduate qualifications in geology, and proficiency with Leapfrog, Vulcan or Surpac. On-site work with potential supervision of junior staff is included.

Qualifications

• Requires a postgraduate geology degree (BSc Hons or MSc).
• Minimum 8 years in economic/mining geology or exploration.
• Proficiency with geological modelling software (Leapfrog, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Strong understanding of ore bodies, structural geology and mining methods.
• Experience logging drill core, interpreting assays, and estimating resources.
• Excellent communication and data management skills.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a leading mining corporation, is seeking an accomplished Senior Geologist to join their operations team in Benoni , Gauteng. This critical role involves providing expert geological input to optimize mining operations, resource estimation, and exploration activities. You will be responsible for geological mapping, core logging, data interpretation, and the development of geological models to support safe and efficient extraction. This position requires a deep understanding of ore body characteristics, structural geology, and mining methods. You will work closely with mine engineers, geophysicists, and other technical specialists to ensure accurate resource definition and effective mine planning. The role is based on-site in the heart of South Africa's mining region, Benoni , offering a dynamic and challenging career in the resource sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geological mapping and structural analysis of ore bodies.

Requirements

• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Strong understanding of structural geology, sedimentology, and mineral deposit types.
• Experience with drill core logging, assay interpretation, and resource estimation techniques.
• Knowledge of mining methods and their geological implications.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
• Ability to work effectively in a demanding operational environment, including underground exposure.
• Professional registration with a relevant South African body (e.g., SACNASP) is advantageous.
