Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The role focuses on geological assessment, resource estimation and exploration strategy development, leading field campaigns and modelling initiatives.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality geological interpretations, mentor junior staff, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards while advancing the company's resource development program.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or Economic Geology.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration.
• Expertise in structural geology, sedimentology, and mineral deposit modelling.
• Proficiency in 3D geological modelling software is essential.
• Strong report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute geological exploration programs, including mapping, sampling, and drilling campaigns.
• Interpret geological data from surface mapping, core logging, geophysical surveys, and geochemical analyses.
• Develop and maintain 3D geological models using Leapfrog, Vulcan, or Micromine.
• Estimate mineral resources and reserves according to industry best practices (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101).
• Collaborate with geophysicists and geochemists to integrate multidisciplinary datasets.
• Liaise with mining engineers to ensure effective mine planning and resource utilization.
• Prepare technical reports, geological assessments, and exploration proposals.
• Mentor junior geologists and provide technical guidance.
• Stay abreast of new geological concepts, exploration technologies, and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations during all field operations.

About the Role

Our client, a respected mining and exploration company with significant operations in the Western Cape, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Geologist to be based in Mossel Bay, Western Cape . This pivotal role will focus on geological assessment, resource estimation, and exploration strategy development. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading geological field campaigns, interpreting complex geological data, and contributing to the strategic direction of exploration projects aimed at identifying and delineating new mineral resources. This position demands a strong theoretical knowledge of economic geology, practical field experience, and proficiency in modern geological modelling software. You will work closely with geophysicists, geochemists, and mining engineers to ensure the successful progression of exploration and resource development initiatives.
