Placements24 is seeking a Lead Gene Editing Scientist for our Cape Town facility. You will lead a research team focused on developing novel gene editing technologies for therapeutic applications, guiding discovery through preclinical validation.

The role demands strategic direction for the R&D pipeline, hands-on expertise in CRISPR, TALENs and ZFNs, and a track record of delivering high-quality scientific outcomes in a collaborative lab environment.

Qualifications

• PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Genomics or closely related field with gene editing emphasis.
• 7+ years leading research projects and managing scientific teams.
• Expertise with gene editing tools including CRISPR, TALENs and ZFNs.
• Proficiency with bioinformatics sequence analysis, gRNA design and off-target prediction.
• Experience developing and validating assays for editing efficiency and specificity.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of scientists and technicians in gene editing research.
• Design, implement and optimize gene editing strategies (CRISPR-Cas9) for target manipulation.
• Oversee planning and execution of experiments with robust designs.
• Analyze genetics and phenotypic data to inform research plans.
• Manage project timelines, resources and budgets to milestones.
• Prepare and review publications, patents and regulatory submissions.
