Qualifications

• PhD or Master’s degree in a related field (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry)
• 7+ years of formulation development experience in pharma
• Solid expertise in solid dosage forms, injectables, or complex delivery systems
• Proficiency with HPLC, dissolution testing, particle size analysis, and microscopy
• Strong GMP/ICH knowledge and regulatory submission experience
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical mindset, and creativity
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to prepare technical reports
• Experience leading projects and mentoring scientists

This crucial role, based in the picturesque region of Mossel Bay, Western Cape , focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing novel dosage forms for various therapeutic areas. The Senior Formulation Scientist will leverage their expertise in pharmaceutics to translate preclinical drug candidates into stable, effective, and patient-friendly drug products. Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative pharmaceutical formulations for oral, parenteral, and topical drug delivery systems.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to characterize drug substances and excipients.
• Optimize formulation composition and manufacturing processes to achieve desired drug release profiles, stability, and bioavailability.
• Perform analytical testing to evaluate drug product performance, including dissolution, stability, and impurity profiling.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for characterizing drug products.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation for formulation development, including development reports, protocols, and regulatory submission materials.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analytical development, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing, to ensure seamless project progression.

Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development, with a strong focus on solid dosage forms, injectables, or complex delivery systems.
• Demonstrated expertise in formulation design principles, excipient selection, and drug delivery technologies.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and equipment used for formulation development and characterization.
• Experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, dissolution testing, particle size analysis, and microscopy.
• Solid understanding of GMP, ICH guidelines, and regulatory submission requirements for drug products.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, strong scientific curiosity, and the ability to think creatively.
• Superior written and verbal communication skills, with experience in preparing technical reports and presentations.
