Placements24 in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, is seeking a Senior Flight Operations Officer to oversee and coordinate all aspects of flight operations at the on-site operational center.

The role requires a valid Flight Dispatcher license or equivalent, 5+ years in flight operations, and strong knowledge of meteorology, navigation and ICAO/SACAA regulations; you will lead a team, manage schedules, monitor flights, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Valid Flight Dispatcher license or equivalent aviation qualification.
• Minimum of 5 years in flight operations, flight planning or airline dispatch.
• Extensive knowledge of aviation meteorology, navigation and aircraft performance.
• Proficiency in flight planning software and systems.
• Strong understanding of ICAO and SACAA regulations.
• Proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure in a dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work on rotating shifts, including nights and weekends.
• Must be able to work full-time in Nelspruit operational environment.
• Strong commitment to safety and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize flight plans considering weather, air traffic, performance and regulatory requirements.
• Manage crew scheduling and duty time limitations to ensure compliance and readiness.
• Monitor flight progress in real-time and make operational decisions when needed.
• Liaise with pilots, air traffic control, maintenance and other ops teams.
• Ensure adherence to national and international flight operations regulations.
• Conduct risk assessments for flight operations and implement mitigations.
• Manage disruptions and emergencies effectively.
• Maintain accurate flight logs and records.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of operations procedures and standards.
• Provide mentorship to junior flight ops staff in Nelspruit.
