Job summary

Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Flight Dispatcher to join the Durban operations control center. You will lead flight planning, monitoring, and operational support for the fleet, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

You will work with flight crews, maintenance, and scheduling, applying meteorology, navigation, and performance knowledge to optimize daily operations and minimize risk.

Qualifications

• Valid Flight Dispatcher License or SACAA equivalent.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in flight planning and operational control.
• Deep knowledge of meteorology, navigation, aircraft performance.
• Proficiency with flight planning software and comms systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop and approve flight plans considering weather, airspace, fuel, and efficiency.
• Monitor real-time flight progress and provide updates and support to crews.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Flight Dispatcher to join their operations control center in Durban . In this key role, you will be responsible for the flight planning, monitoring, and operational support for our fleet of aircraft, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, efficiency, and economic viability. You will work closely with flight crews, maintenance, and scheduling departments to manage all aspects of flight operations. This position requires a deep understanding of meteorology, navigation, aircraft performance, and aviation law, providing a challenging and rewarding career in flight operations management.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and approve flight plans, considering factors such as weather, airspace restrictions, fuel requirements, and operational efficiency.
• Monitor flight progress in real-time, providing timely updates, adjustments, and operational support to flight crews.
• Analyze weather reports and forecasts to assess potential risks and make necessary route or schedule adjustments.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant aviation regulations, company policies, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate with engineering and scheduling teams to manage disruptions, diversions, and aircraft on ground (AOG) situations.

Requirements

• Valid Flight Dispatcher License or equivalent certification from SACAA.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in flight planning and operational control.
• In-depth knowledge of meteorology, aerodynamics, navigation, and aircraft performance characteristics.
• Proficiency with flight planning software and communication systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
