Job summary

Snatch | Accounting & Finance Headhunters in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to strengthen the finance team in a hybrid role. You will lead the monthly accounting cycle, project accounting, tax compliance, fixed assets and audit support.

The role reports to the CFO, oversees a small team, and combines hands-on accounting with strategic finance oversight for a growing property development business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional accounting designation (AGA(SA), CIMA, SAIPA, or similar), completed or in progress.
• Experience with modern ERP and finance systems.
• Experience in financial operations, process improvement, and systems optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Lead a small accounting team and oversee monthly bookkeeping.
• Oversee month-end accounting, reconciliations, and GL integrity.
• Manage project tracking and accounting for projects.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and capitalised costs.
• Review VAT and income tax returns to SARS and support audits.

Lead core accounting across a growing property development business

Role Overview

A growing property development and construction business is looking for a Senior Financial Accountant to strengthen its Cape Town finance team.

Reporting to the CFO, you will lead a small accounting team and take ownership of the monthly accounting cycle, project accounting, tax compliance, fixed assets and audit support. This is a hands-on role for someone comfortable combining day-to-day accounting delivery with oversight of the wider finance function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage and lead a small accounting team, ensuring monthly bookkeeping is completed accurately and on time.
• Oversee month-end accounting, reconciliations and general ledger integrity across the business.
• Manage project tracking and accounting, ensuring costs and financial information are accurately captured against projects.
• Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure accurate accounting for fixed assets and capitalised costs.
• Review and submit VAT and income tax returns to SARS, ensuring statutory deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
• Support the annual audit process by preparing schedules and documentation and liaising with external auditors.

Qualification and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Professional accounting designation (AGA(SA), CIMA, SAIPA, or similar), completed or in progress, highly advantageous.
• Experience with modern ERP and finance systems.
• Proven experience in financial operations, process improvement, and systems optimisation.

Salary:

• R540,000 - R660,000 CTC per year
