Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Network Engineer in Johannesburg to design, implement, and maintain advanced fibre optic networks. The role combines hybrid work with in-office site visits in the Johannesburg area, focusing on reliability, scalability and performance of core infrastructure.

The candidate will lead network architecture, deployment, troubleshooting, and security assessments, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects and stay ahead of evolving

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive network engineering experience with fibre optics.
• Expertise in routing (BGP, OSPF) and switching.
• Hands-on experience with DWDM, GPON, and FTTx.
• Proficiency with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG).
• Strong security understanding.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• CCNA/CCNP or equivalent certification desirable.
• Experience in hybrid work environments.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect fibre optic network solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Oversee deployment, configuration, and integration of routers, switches, and optical transmission equipment.
• Analyze network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement preventive measures to minimize downtime.
• Maintain network documentation including diagrams and configurations.
• Collaborate with project managers, field technicians, and support teams to deliver projects.
• Stay updated on new network technologies and best practices.
• Conduct security assessments and implement protection measures.
• Manage vendor relationships and evaluate equipment/services.
