Placements24 is seeking a Senior Facilities Engineer for our oil & gas client in Bloemfontein. The role focuses on design, operation and maintenance of upstream production facilities within a hybrid on-site/remote work model.

The ideal candidate has a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree, 7+ years in facilities engineering, and strong skills in process design, P&IDs, rotating equipment, and HAZOP safety assessments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering required.
• Minimum 7 years of facilities engineering experience in Oil & Gas, upstream preferred.
• Strong knowledge of process design, P&IDs, rotating equipment (pumps, compressors) and pressure vessels.
• Experience with HAZOP studies and other safety assessment techniques.
• Proven project management skills for facility upgrades and small capital projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

About the Role

Our client, a growing player in the Oil & Gas sector , is seeking a seasoned Senior Facilities Engineer to support their Production Facilities division. This role is crucial for the design, operation, and maintenance of our upstream production facilities. The position is based in Bloemfontein, Free State , and adopts a hybrid work model, combining essential on-site engineering support with remote planning and analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process engineering, rotating equipment, and safety systems within the context of oil and gas production. You will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency, and safety of our production infrastructure. Key Responsibilities

Provide engineering expertise for the design, construction, and commissioning of new production facilities and modifications to existing ones. Oversee the operation and maintenance of production facilities, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Troubleshoot operational problems, conduct root cause analyses, and implement effective solutions. Ensure facilities comply with all relevant health, safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Manage capital projects related to facility upgrades and expansions, from conception to completion. Develop and implement preventative maintenance strategies for key equipment. Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to achieve production targets and manage risks. Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and reports. Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement in facility engineering.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in facilities engineering within the Oil & Gas industry, preferably in upstream production.
• Strong understanding of process design, P&IDs, rotating equipment (pumps, compressors), and pressure vessels.
• Experience with HAZOP studies and other safety assessment techniques.
• Proven project management skills for facility modifications and small capital projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, managing both on-site and remote tasks.
• Knowledge of South African regulations pertinent to oil and gas facilities is advantageous.
• Must be eligible to work in Bloemfontein, Free State .
