Placements24 is seeking a Senior Exploration Geologist to lead an experienced team in Upington, Northern Cape. You will plan and manage exploration programs, interpret complex geological data, and contribute to the company’s resource pipeline from grass-roots exploration to resource definition.

The role requires strong leadership, deep expertise in structural geology and petrology, and proficiency with Leapfrog, Vulcan, and GIS.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or related earth science.
• Minimum 7 years in mineral exploration with discovery or significant resource delineation.
• Expertise in structural geology, igneous and metamorphic petrology, and mineral systems.
• Proficiency in Leapfrog, Vulcan, and GIS; experience with geophysics, geochemistry, remote sensing.

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute geological exploration programs including reconnaissance, target generation, and drilling campaigns.
• Conduct detailed geological mapping, structural analysis, and rock chip sampling to define prospective areas.
• Interpret geophysical and geochemical data to identify and prioritize drilling targets.
• Log drill core and chip samples, collect assay data, and integrate this information into geological models.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for senior management and investment committees.
• Mentor junior geologists and field technicians, fostering a high-performance exploration culture.

About the Role

This role is critical for identifying and evaluating new mineral prospects, managing exploration programs, and contributing to the company's resource pipeline. You will lead field teams, interpret complex geological data, and work closely with other disciplines to advance projects from grass-roots exploration through to resource definition.
