Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an experienced Event Operations Director in Pietermaritzburg to lead the end-to-end execution of high-profile events. You will drive planning, budgeting, and on-site coordination with a hands-on approach.

The role demands strong production, vendor management, and client-relations capabilities, with a deep understanding of event safety and risk management. Travel and flexible hours are required in KwaZulu-Natal.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in event management, with at least 4 years in a directorial or senior operational role.
• Proven experience managing large-scale corporate events, conferences, and festivals.
• Strong understanding of event production, logistics, and risk management.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and control costs effectively.
• Proficiency in event management software and project management tools.
• Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, in Pietermaritzburg area.
• Degree in Hospitality, Event Management, Marketing, or related field advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the entire operational lifecycle of events, from concept development to post-event wrap-up.
• Develop detailed operational plans, timelines, and budgets for each event.
• Manage and coordinate all event logistics, including venue selection, setup, staffing, AV, catering, and security.
• Source, negotiate with, and manage relationships with vendors and suppliers.
• Lead and mentor the event operations team, ensuring high performance and professional development.
• Conduct site inspections and risk assessments to ensure event safety and compliance.
• Manage on-site operations during events, troubleshooting issues and ensuring seamless execution.
• Develop and implement contingency plans for potential disruptions.
• Ensure client satisfaction by delivering exceptional event experiences.
• Conduct post-event evaluations and reporting, identifying areas for improvement.
