Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Scientist for an on-site role in Polokwane, Limpopo. The candidate will develop, implement and manage environmental management plans, conduct ESIA studies, and oversee monitoring programs within the mining sector.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years of mining environmental experience, strong regulatory knowledge (NEMA, MPRDA, Water Act), and excellent analytical and reporting skills, with SACNASP being highly desirable. Travel to mine sites is required.

Formación

• BSc or MSc in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, specifically within the mining industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (NEMA, MPRDA, Water Act).
• Proven experience in conducting ESIAs and developing EMPs.
• Strong understanding of mining processes and their potential environmental impacts.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
• Registered Professional Scientist (SACNASP) is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to mine sites.

Responsabilidades

• Develop and implement Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining operations.
• Conduct ESIA studies and Water Use License applications.
• Oversee environmental monitoring programs (air, water, soil, noise, biodiversity).
• Ensure compliance with national and provincial environmental legislation and permits.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities, stakeholders, and community representatives.
• Manage rehabilitation and closure planning activities.
• Provide environmental training and awareness to site personnel.
• Investigate environmental incidents and non-compliance.
• Contribute to sustainability reporting and initiatives.
• Advise project teams on environmental best practices and risk mitigation.
