About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Environmental Scientist to join their team, supporting operations near Benoni . This role is essential for ensuring environmental compliance, managing environmental impact assessments, and developing sustainable practices for their mining activities. You will play a key role in advising on environmental policy, conducting site assessments, and overseeing remediation projects. The position requires a blend of office-based strategic work and field-based assessments, offering a comprehensive environmental management experience within the Gauteng province. We are looking for a proactive individual committed to environmental stewardship and regulatory adherence in the mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for mining projects.


• Conduct site investigations, baseline studies, and monitoring programs for air, water, and soil quality.


• Develop and implement strategies for pollution control , waste management, and biodiversity conservation.


• Ensure compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and permitting requirements.


• Provide expert environmental advice and technical support to project teams and management.


• Oversee environmental rehabilitation and closure planning for mine sites.

Requirements

• MSc or MEng in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.


• Minimum of 7 years of experience in environmental management, with a significant portion in the mining industry.


• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, permitting processes, and impact assessment methodologies.


• Proficiency in environmental modeling software and data analysis tools.


• Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills.


• Experience with ISO 14001 environmental management systems.
