Job summary

Placements24 is seeking an expert Electrical Protection and Control Engineer to join their Sandton team. You will design, implement, and maintain protective relaying schemes and control systems for power utilities and industrial sites, ensuring stability, reliability and safety of electrical networks.

The role offers exposure to major infrastructure projects and a collaborative, dynamic work environment in the Gauteng region.

Qualifications

B.Eng or B.Tech in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems specialization.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in electrical protection and control engineering.
Familiarity with protection philosophies and relay technologies (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB).
Experience with power system simulation software (ETAP, PSS/E) for protection studies.
Familiarity with IEC 61850 communication standards.

Responsibilities

Design, configure, and test protective relaying schemes for generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
Develop control logic and SCADA integration for electrical substations and power plants.
Perform fault analysis and coordination studies to ensure optimal system protection.
Specify protection and control equipment, including relays, circuit breakers, and communication devices.
Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting phases.
Stay updated on the latest advancements in power system protection and control technology.
