Job summary

Placements24 in Nelspruit seeks an experienced Power Systems Protection Engineer to design, test and implement protective schemes for transmission, distribution and generation facilities. You will ensure safety, reliability and continuity of energy infrastructure across projects in the region.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus and a minimum of 6 years’ experience, plus proficiency with ETAP, CAPE and ASE2000.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems specialization.
• Minimum of 6 years in power systems protection engineering.
• Proficiency with protection relay settings software ETAP, CAPE and ASE2000.
• Knowledge of fault analysis, protection coordination and system dynamics.

Responsibilities

• Design protective relaying schemes for transmission, distribution, and generation systems.
• Develop protection philosophies, settings and coordination studies.
• Test and commission protection systems including site visits and field verification.
• Analyze disturbances to determine root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NRS and best practices in protection engineering.
• Collaborate with design engineers, project managers and field personnel on protection matters.
