Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Engineer for their R&D facility in Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA. This on-site role leads the design, development, and testing of next-generation electronic hardware, owning complex circuit designs, BOMs, and board layouts to ensure performance and manufacturability.

You will collaborate with firmware and manufacturing teams, perform simulations, select components, and stay ahead of trends in power electronics and high-speed digital interfaces.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in electrical hardware design.
• Experience with DO-254 or similar safety-critical design standards is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance analog and digital circuits for new electronic products.
• Create schematics, BOMs, and PCB layouts using industry-standard EDA tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop high-performance analog and digital circuits for new electronic products.
• Create detailed schematics, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layouts using industry-standard EDA tools.
• Select appropriate electronic components based on performance, cost, and reliability requirements.
• Perform thorough circuit simulations and analysis to predict and verify performance.
• Build, test, and debug prototype hardware, identifying and resolving design issues.
• Collaborate with firmware engineers to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
• Work with manufacturing engineers to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and testability (DFT).
• Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in electronic hardware design.
• Document design specifications, test procedures, and performance reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical hardware design.
• Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Eagle).
• Strong understanding of analog circuit design, power management, and digital signal processing.
• Experience with microcontrollers, FPGAs, and high-speed digital interfaces.
• Proficiency with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and logic analyzers.
• Knowledge of power electronics and switching power supply design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience with DO-254 or similar safety-critical design standards is a plus.
