Job summary

Lumenii is seeking an experienced Hardware Design Engineer in Durban to lead the design and development of electronic hardware and embedded software products. You will drive projects from concept through to production, ensuring designs meet customer specifications and regulatory requirements.

Requirements include a Electronics Engineering degree, 5+ years’ experience in hardware and embedded software, and strong ECAD/PCB skills with C/C++ for microcontrollers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent required.
• 5+ years’ experience in electronic hardware and embedded software design.
• Experience taking products from concept to production in high-tech environments.
• Strong ECAD/PCB design skills (Altium or equivalent).
• Embedded programming in C/C++ for microcontrollers.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end hardware and embedded software development from concept to production.
• Drive design reviews and collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, quality and supply chain.
• Prepare production data packs and support manufacturing transfer of new designs.
• Develop test plans to validate performance, safety and reliability and support certifications.
• Troubleshoot hardware and firmware issues across prototypes and products.

Our client is looking for an experienced Hardware Design Engineer to join a growing Research & Development team,leading the design and development of innovative electronic hardware andembedded software products. You’ll drive projects from concept through toproduction, ensuring designs meet customer specifications, quality standardsand regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Lead end-to-end research, design,integration, and testing of new electronic hardware and embedded softwaresolutions, meeting international standards and regulatory requirements.
  
• Drive design reviews andcollaborate with cross-functional teams (R&D, manufacturing, quality,supply chain) and external partners to resolve design challenges.
  
• Prepare production data packs(drawings, BOMs, specifications) and support the transition of new designs intomanufacturing.
  
• Develop and execute test plans tovalidate performance, safety and reliability, and drive products throughqualification and certification.
  
• Troubleshoot and debug hardwareand firmware issues, providing technical support across prototypes and existingproducts.
  
• Maintain clear technicaldocumentation and act as a technical resource for Sales, Customer Support andProcurement.
  
• Stayahead of emerging technologies, mentor junior engineers and drive continuousimprovement.
  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in ElectronicEngineering; a postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
  
• 5+ years’ experience in electronichardware and embedded software design, with a track record of taking productsfrom concept to production.
  
• Background in a productdevelopment / R&D environment – electronics, automotive, IoT or similarhigh-tech industries.
  
• Strong ECAD/PCB design skills(Altium or similar) and embedded programming expertise (C/C++) formicrocontrollers.
  
• Knowledge of microcontrollerarchitectures (ARM Cortex, PIC, etc.) and regulatory/industry standards(EMC/EMI, ISO quality).
  
• Hands-onlab experience (oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analysers) for testing anddebugging.
