Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in Sandton to lead electrical control system design for industrial automation projects. You will develop PLC/HMI/SCADA solutions, create detailed schematics and BOMs, and select components in collaboration with mechanical and software teams.

Ideal candidates have 8+ years in electrical design with automation focus, strong PLC/HMI/SCADA skills, and proficiency in EPLAN/AutoCAD Electrical.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
8+ years of progressive experience in electrical design engineering with a strong focus on industrial automation.
Proven PLC programming across platforms and HMI/SCADA development.
Strong knowledge of industrial protocols: Profibus, Ethernet/IP, Modbus.
VFDs, servo systems, and robotics experience desirable.
Proficient in electrical CAD software: EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical.

Responsibilities

Design and engineer electrical control systems for industrial automation projects (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
Create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and BOMs using CAD software.
Specify and select PLCs, drives, motors, sensors, and network hardware.
Program and configure PLCs and develop HMI/SCADA interfaces.
Perform system architecture design for scalability, reliability, and safety.
Collaborate with mechanical, software, and project teams through the lifecycle.
