Job summary

MECS Africa seeks an experienced EHS leader to develop and implement the site safety strategy within a high-stakes industrial setting. You will oversee the annual EHS plan, drive KPI performance, and ensure leadership alignment across teams.

The role requires a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and 10–15 years of EHS experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory capacity, with a proven track record in contractor governance, incident investigations, and crisis communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety/Environmental Engineering or related field.
• 10–15 years of EHS experience in industrial operations.
• Minimum 5 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
• NEBOSH Diploma or NEBOSH IGC (minimum) or equivalent.
• ISO 45001 internal/lead auditor qualification is preferred.
• Strong leadership, accountability, and change management.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the annual EHS plan, monitor KPIs, and report performance to leadership.
• Provide governance over contractor EHS performance, including SOW requirements, audits, and corrective actions.
• Lead incident management for high-potential events, ensure timely investigations, and drive closure of actions.
• Ensure effective risk management: approve risk assessments for high-risk work and verify critical controls.
• Oversee emergency drills and emergency response capability aligned with standards.
• Maintain interface with regulators and external stakeholders; support inspections and timely closure of findings.
• Lead governance meetings, prepare executive reports, and engage regulators/clients.
• Lead and develop the site EHS team through coaching and succession planning.
