About the Role

Our client, a vibrant municipal sports council in Benoni, Gauteng, is seeking a dedicated and visionary Senior Community Sports Development Officer. This role is paramount in fostering grassroots sports participation, enhancing community health and well-being, and developing sustainable sports programs across diverse demographics. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating community-based sports initiatives, engaging with local stakeholders, schools, and sports clubs to promote active lifestyles. You will identify needs, secure funding, manage projects, and lead a team dedicated to expanding access to sports and recreation. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic plans for community sports development, aligning with council objectives and community needs.
• Identify opportunities and secure funding through grants, sponsorships, and partnerships to support community sports initiatives.
• Design, coordinate, and deliver accessible sports programs and events for various age groups and abilities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local schools, community centers, sports clubs, and other relevant organizations.
• Recruit, train, and manage volunteers and program staff to support community sports activities.
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, collecting data and producing reports on outcomes and impact.
• Promote inclusivity and diversity within community sports programs, ensuring access for underrepresented groups.
• Act as a key liaison between the sports council and community stakeholders, advocating for the benefits of sport and recreation.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in community development, sports management, or a related field, with a focus on program delivery.
• Proven track record in project management, including planning, budgeting, implementation, and evaluation.
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership building, and securing funding or resources.
• Strong understanding of sports development principles, inclusion, and diversity in sport.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lead and motivate teams, including volunteers.
• Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a relevant discipline.
• A passion for sport and its power to create positive social change.
