Placements24 seeks a Senior Commercial Lawyer to join our client on a fully remote basis in South Africa. You will provide expert counsel on complex contracts, strategic partnerships, regulatory compliance, and risk management for diverse clients.

The role demands at least 10 years post-qualification experience, strong leadership, and the ability to work independently in a remote setting while mentoring junior team members and shaping the organisation's legal strategy.

Qualifications

• Admitted attorney with 10+ years post-qualification experience in commercial/corporate law.
• Proven track record of managing complex commercial transactions and providing strategic legal advice.
• Expertise in contract law, corporate governance, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Lead the negotiation and drafting of complex commercial agreements, including high-value service contracts, distribution agreements, and joint venture documentation.
• Provide strategic legal advice on corporate restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and other significant business transactions.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable South African laws and regulations, including competition law, consumer protection, and POPIA.
• Conduct in-depth legal research and risk assessments for new business initiatives and projects.
• Manage and resolve commercial disputes, including arbitration and litigation support.
• Develop and implement robust legal policies, procedures, and compliance programs.
• Advise on intellectual property strategy and protection.
• Liaise effectively with senior management, external counsel, and regulatory bodies.
• Mentor and guide junior legal team members, fostering a collaborative virtual environment.
• Stay abreast of evolving legal landscapes and industry best practices to proactively advise the business.
