Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with specialized expertise in roads and stormwater for projects in Nelspruit/Mbombela area of Mpumalanga. You will lead design and project management of critical infrastructure while ensuring compliance with SANS and municipal by-laws.

You will oversee road networks, drainage systems, and related infrastructure, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and regulators to deliver sustainable and efficient solutions in a high-growth region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• PrEng registration with ECSA is mandatory.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in roads and stormwater design and management.
• Proficiency in Civil design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Civil Designer, SewerGEMS, HEC-RAS.
• Strong knowledge of traffic engineering, pavement design, hydrology and hydraulics.
• Experience managing projects from conception to construction.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working in Mpumalanga region is a plus.

Our client, a highly respected civil engineering firm operating in Nelspruit , is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer with specialized expertise in roads and stormwater management. This position is central to the design and project management of critical infrastructure projects within Mpumalanga . The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of road networks, drainage systems, and related infrastructure, ensuring adherence to design standards, environmental regulations, and project timelines. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design of roads, highways, intersections, and associated infrastructure, including geometric design, pavement design, and traffic management plans.
• Develop comprehensive stormwater management plans, including hydraulic design of culverts, channels, and detention/retention basins.
• Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents using industry-standard software.
• Conduct site investigations, feasibility studies, and impact assessments for road and stormwater projects.
• Manage project teams, coordinate with other disciplines (geotechnical, structural), and liaise with clients and regulatory authorities.
• Oversee construction supervision for road and stormwater elements, ensuring quality and compliance with design specifications.
• Ensure all designs comply with South African National Standards (SANS) and relevant municipal by-laws in Mpumalanga.
• Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineering staff.

Requirements
