Job summary

Placements24 seeks a seasoned Senior Chemical Engineer with a strong focus on Plant Operations to join the Bloemfontein team. This role oversees daily chemical manufacturing units, ensuring safety, efficiency, and product quality while mentoring junior engineers.

You will troubleshoot plant issues, implement process enhancements, and lead RCA investigations. A degree in chemical engineering and 6+ years' experience are required, with hands-on DCS experience and strong problem-solving skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical plant operations or process engineering in a manufacturing setting.
• Hands-on experience with process control systems (DCS) and troubleshooting production issues.
• Strong knowledge of chemical thermodynamics, kinetics, and material science.
• Proven ability to lead and motivate operations teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of chemical production units to meet output and quality targets.
• Troubleshoot process upsets and equipment malfunctions, implementing corrective actions to minimize downtime.
• Lead root cause analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and deviations.
• Develop and implement SOPs and provide training to operations personnel.
• Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams on equipment reliability and improvement projects.
• Ensure adherence to safety, health, and environmental regulations and company policies.
