Job summary

Modzilla is seeking a skilled canvas fabricator and team lead in Bloemfontein to run a division of the workshop floor. The role involves patterning and cutting bespoke canvas, PVC and heavy textiles, directly from customer objects, and leading a team of eight across cutting, machining and finishing.

You will own floor quality, plan workflow, manage turnaround times, minimize waste, and tackle the most challenging patterns.

Qualifications

• Substantial hands-on experience patterning and fabricating in canvas, PVC or another heavy technical textile.
• Proven ability to pattern three-dimensional work from measurements, without a template to copy.

Job description

We are looking for one of the best canvas people in South Africa to run a division of our workshop floor and lead a team of 8.

This is not a production line. No two jobs are the same. One morning it is a boom cover for a yacht, then a bespoke tent for a caravan that has not been built since 1990. If you can take a tape measure to a customer's vehicle, boat or trailer and produce a pattern from nothing, this is the workshop where that skill is worth the most.

What you will actually do

• Lead and schedule a workshop team of 8 across cutting, machining and finishing.
• Own quality on the floor: what leaves here carries our name.
• Plan job flow, manage turnaround times and keep the team moving across a mixed job book.
• Control fabric usage, nesting and waste.
• Solve the difficult jobs yourself — the ones nobody else on the floor can pattern.

• Custom groundsheets
• Bakkie canopies and tonneau covers
• Boat covers, yacht canvas and boom covers

Who we are looking for
