Pick n Pay Retailers is seeking a Senior BI Analyst to deliver high-quality BI solutions that empower data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
The role partners with Data Product Owners and engineering teams to ensure accuracy and alignment with business metrics, delivering dashboards and reports that are intuitive and trusted.

The Senior BI Analyst is responsible for delivering high-quality business intelligence solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation. This role combines strong analytical capability with expert data visualisation skills, translating business requirements into trusted, intuitive, and actionable dashboards and reports.
The Senior BI Analyst partners closely with Data Product Owners, Data Analysts, and Data Engineering teams to ensure insights are accurate, relevant, and aligned to agreed business metrics.
Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
Minimum Experience: 6+ years’ experience in a BI Developer, BI Analyst, or Visualisation Developer role
Proven experience delivering production BI dashboards and reports for business users
Hands-on experience with modern BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Pyramid, Business Objects, Tableau)
Exposure to enterprise data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, SAP BW)
Strong SQL skills and experience querying large datasets
Experience working with data warehouses and curated analytical datasets
Good understanding of data visualisation principles and UX best practices
Understanding of Retail is advantageous.
Familiarity with agile delivery frameworks
Key Responsibilities BI Analysis & Requirements Work with Data Product Owners to understand analytical needs, decision-making processes, and key business questions. Translate business requirements into clear BI specifications, including KPIs, measures, filters, and report layouts. Define, document, and maintain metric definitions and business logic to ensure consistency and shared understanding. Validate requirements against available data and challenge assumptions where necessary.
BI & Visualisation Development Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and self-service BI assets using approved BI platforms. Peer review other BI Analyst developments for alignment to standards and fit for purpose. Collaborate on, and apply data visualisation best practices to ensure insights are easy to interpret, intuitive, and visually effective. Build interactive features such as drill-downs, filtering, and comparisons to support exploratory analysis. Optimise BI solutions for performance, usability, and scalability. Ensure that BI solutions meet data Quality & Insight requirements. Validate data accuracy and investigate discrepancies or anomalies. Interpret trends and patterns in data and proactively surface insights to stakeholders. Support business users in understanding and correctly using BI outputs.
Collaboration & Delivery Collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers to align BI solutions with data models and platform standards, contributing to the formulation of data model requirements. Participate in agile delivery ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives. Support user acceptance testing and adoption of BI solutions.
Governance & Standards Adhere to BI standards, visual design guidelines, and data governance policies. Ensure appropriate data access, security, and compliance in all BI solutions. Promote consistent, trusted reporting and reduce duplicate or conflicting metrics.
Competencies Business Intelligence & Analytics: Strong ability to translate business needs and analytical questions into effective BI solutions, KPIs, metrics and actionable insights. Analytical & Conceptual Thinking: Ability to analyse complex datasets, identify trends and patterns, challenge assumptions and draw meaningful business conclusions. BI Development & Visualisation: Advanced capability in developing intuitive, interactive and visually effective dashboards, reports and self-service BI solutions. Data & SQL Proficiency: Strong SQL and data analysis capability, with a sound understanding of data warehouses, analytical datasets and enterprise data platforms.
Business & Data Acumen: Ability to understand business processes, data relationships and the context in which data is used to support decision-making. Stakeholder Engagement: Effectively engages with Data Product Owners, business users and technical teams to understand requirements, communicate insights and manage expectations. Data Quality & Governance: Strong focus on data accuracy, consistency and trusted reporting, with adherence to data governance, security and access standards.
Solution Design & Performance: Designs BI solutions that are scalable, user-friendly, fit for purpose and optimised for performance. Collaboration & Agile Delivery: Works effectively with Data Engineers, Analytics Engineers and cross-functional teams and contributes actively to agile delivery practices. Continuous Improvement & Innovation: Identifies opportunities to improve BI solutions, user experience, reporting consistency and self-service analytics capabilities.
