Job summary

Pick n Pay is seeking a Senior BI Analyst to deliver high-quality BI solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

You will translate business requirements into trusted dashboards and reports, collaborate with Data Product Owners, Data Analysts, and Data Engineers, and ensure insights align with key metrics. Retail domain knowledge is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years' experience in a BI Developer, BI Analyst, or Visualisation Developer role.
• Proven experience delivering production BI dashboards and reports for business users.
• Hands-on experience with modern BI tools (Power BI, Pyramid, Business Objects, Tableau).
• Exposure to enterprise data platforms (Snowflake, SAP BW).
• Strong SQL skills and experience querying large datasets.

Responsibilities

• Understand analytical needs with Data Product Owners and translate into BI specifications (KPIs, measures, filters, layouts).
• Design, develop, and maintain dashboards and reports using approved BI platforms.
• Peer review BI developments for alignment to standards and purpose.
• Collaborate on applying data visualization best practices for intuitive insights.
• Build interactive features like drill-downs, filtering, and comparisons for exploration.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to align BI solutions with data models and platform standards.

The Senior BI Analyst is responsible for delivering high-quality business intelligence solutions that enable data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

This role combines strong analytical capability with expert data visualisation skills, translating business requirements into trusted, intuitive, and actionable dashboards and reports.

The Senior BI Analyst partners closely with Data Product Owners, Data Analysts, and Data Engineering teams to ensure insights are accurate, relevant, and aligned to agreed business metrics.

Minimum Qualification:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience

Minimum Experience:

• 6+ years' experience in a BI Developer, BI Analyst, or Visualisation Developer role
• Proven experience delivering production BI dashboards and reports for business users
• Hands-on experience with modern BI tools (e.g. Power BI, Pyramid, Business Objects, Tableau)
• Exposure to enterprise data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, SAP BW)

• Experience working with data warehouses and curated analytical datasets
• Good understanding of data visualisation principles and UX best practices
• Understanding of Retail is advantageous.
• Familiarity with agile delivery frameworks

Key Responsibilities

BI Analysis & Requirements

• Work with Data Product Owners to understand analytical needs, decision-making processes, and key business questions.
• Translate business requirements into clear BI specifications, including KPIs, measures, filters, and report layouts.
• Define, document, and maintain metric definitions and business logic to ensure consistency and shared understanding.
• Validate requirements against available data and challenge assumptions where necessary.

BI & Visualisation Development

• Design, develop, and maintain dashboards, reports, and self-service BI assets using approved BI platforms.
• Peer review other BI Analyst developments for alignment to standards and fit for purpose.
• Collaborate on, and apply data visualisation best practices to ensure insights are easy to interpret, intuitive, and visually effective.
• Build interactive features such as drill-downs, filtering, and comparisons to support exploratory analysis.

Optimise BI solutions for performance, usability, and scalability.

• Ensure that BI solutions meet data Quality & Insight requirements.
• Validate data accuracy and investigate discrepancies or anomalies.
• Interpret trends and patterns in data and proactively surface insights to stakeholders.
• Support business users in understanding and correctly using BI outputs.

Collaboration & Delivery

• Collaborate closely with Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers to align BI solutions with data models and platform standards, contributing to the formulation of data model requirements.
• Participate in agile delivery ceremonies including backlog refinement, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives.
• Support user acceptance testing and adoption of BI solutions.

Governance & Standards

• Adhere to BI standards, visual design guidelines, and data governance policies.
• Ensure appropriate data access, security, and compliance in all BI solutions.
• Promote consistent, trusted reporting and reduce duplicate or conflicting metrics.
