Job summary

IQbusiness South Africa seeks an experienced Data Analyst to enable better decisions via trusted data, insights and governance. You will blend data analysis, data enablement and reporting with a solid understanding of modern data platforms and AI-enabled tools.

You will engage with business and technical stakeholders, define requirements, deliver actionable insights, and develop dashboards using tools like Power BI while applying governance principles and cloud platform knowledge.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in data, stats, IT or computer science.
• 4–8 years of experience in data analytics, BI or data management.
• Strong SQL and Power BI experience with data governance focus.
• Experience with data quality, data modelling and cloud data platforms.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst to help organisations make better decisions through trusted data, meaningful insights and effective governance practices.

This role combines data analysis, data enablement, reporting and governance, while requiring a solid understanding of modern data platforms, data engineering concepts and AI-enabled tools. The successful candidate will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand requirements, analyse data, improve data quality, and deliver actionable insights through reporting and analytics solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse data to identify trends, patterns and business opportunities.
• Translate complex data into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Define and monitor KPIs, measures and business metrics.
• Perform root cause analysis and data validation activities.

Data enablement and governance

• Promote data quality, governance standards and best practices.
• Maintain data dictionaries, business glossaries and source-to-target mappings.
• Support data lineage, metadata management and reporting standards.
• Identify and remediate data quality issues with relevant stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with data governance and information management principles.

Requirements and stakeholder engagement

• Gather, document and validate business, data and reporting requirements.
• Facilitate engagement between business and technical teams.
• Create functional specifications and data-related documentation.
• Support testing, user acceptance activities and solution adoption.

Business intelligence and reporting

• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards and visualisations.
• Translate business requirements into meaningful BI solutions.
• Perform report validation and quality assurance.
• Support self-service reporting and data literacy initiatives.

Technical data capability

• Use SQL to extract, transform and validate data.
• Understand data models, warehouses, lakes and modern cloud platforms.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects and BI teams.
• Support data integration, transformation and analytical solution delivery.

AI and Modern tooling

• Leverage AI-enabled tools to improve analysis, documentation and productivity.
• Apply responsible AI practices and validate AI-generated outputs.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, analytics and AI trends.
• Identify opportunities to improve business outcomes through modern data and AI capabilities.

Qualifications

• Relevant Degree, Diploma or equivalent qualification in data, stats, IT or computer science.
• Advantageous
  • Power BI Certification.
  • Azure, AWS or Cloud-related certifications.
  • Data Governance, Data Management or Business Analysis certifications.
  • AI, Analytics or Data-related certifications.

Experience

• 4-8 years' experience within Data Analytics, BI, Data Management or related disciplines.
• Proven experience analysing data and delivering business insights.
• Experience gathering and documenting requirements.
• Experience with data quality, governance and reporting practices.
• Strong SQL and data analysis capability.
• Experience with Power BI or similar BI platforms.
• Exposure to cloud-based data environments and modern data platforms.
• Exposure to AI-enabled tools and modern analytics solutions advantageous.
