Job summary

South African Airways, based in Nelspruit, seeks an Aviation Safety Inspector to safeguarding flight ops, maintenance, and ground handling against SACAA and ICAO/IATA standards. You will conduct inspections, audits, and investigations while collaborating with pilots, engineers, and managers to reduce risk and improve safety performance.

The role reports to the Safety & Compliance department and requires a Bachelor’s in a related field, five years of hands-on aviation safety experience, and

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of aviation safety regulations, standards, and best practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for reporting and engagement.
• Proficiency in Safety Management Systems (SMS) and data analysis tools.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
• High level of integrity and commitment to safety excellence.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular and ad-hoc safety inspections of aircraft, facilities, and procedures to ensure SACAA compliance and international regs.
• Lead internal safety audits and support external regulatory audits with reports and corrective actions.
• Investigate safety incidents, near-misses, and non-conformities; document findings and recommend preventive measures.
• Collaborate with flight crews, engineers, and staff to promote proactive safety culture and address hazards.
• Monitor and analyze safety data trends; produce actionable insights for senior management.
• Develop and deliver safety briefings, training modules, and awareness campaigns.
