Job summary

Ovations Talent Sourcing is hiring a Senior Support Engineer in South Africa (hybrid) to join the Atlassian Engineering and Managed Services team. You will develop specialist Atlassian skills through a funded training and certification path, handling complex incidents, and ensuring high availability across on-premise and cloud environments.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• At least 6 years' experience in Technical Support, Systems Administration, Infrastructure, DevOps, Hardware/Server Support or a related discipline.
• Experience as a Senior or Lead Engineer.
• Strong production-level Windows Server and/or Linux administration.
• Experience with at least one cloud platform: AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Strong networking knowledge including: DNS, TCP/IP, Reverse Proxies, Load Balancing, SSL Certificates, Firewall Rules.
• Strong scripting and automation skills in PowerShell, Bash, Python, Groovy or similar.
• Experience administering relational databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL or Oracle.
• Experience managing production environments and major incidents.
• Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing technical work.
• Strong communication skills and confidence engaging with clients.
• Genuine interest in learning the Atlassian stack and completing a certification path.
• Valid driver's licence, own transport and willingness to travel.
• Willingness to undergo client vetting, including criminal and credit checks.

Responsibilities

• Act as the senior technical escalation point for internal and client environments.
• Own and resolve complex incidents and problems.
• Design, build, secure and maintain server and application environments across on-premise and cloud.
• Manage high availability and disaster recovery arrangements.
• Drive root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
• Own upgrade, patching and migration planning.
• Build and improve automation, monitoring, alerting and CI/CD pipelines.
• Mentor junior and intermediate engineers and review technical work.
• Contribute to solution design, effort estimates and client presentations.
• Develop Atlassian administration, configuration, scripting and integration skills.
• Work with Jira Software, Jira Service Management and Confluence.
• Complete the assigned Atlassian learning and certification path.
• Engage with client technical teams and stakeholders.
• Participate in standby and after-hours support, including major incident coordination.Help define operational standards, security hardening and change control practices.
