Job summary

Ovations Talent Sourcing in Johannesburg seeks a Senior DevOps & Site Reliability Engineer to design, build and maintain highly available, scalable cloud platforms for mission-critical applications. This role combines software engineering, platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, and observability to drive operational excellence, system resilience, and rapid deployment velocity across delivery teams.

The position is a 12-month contract with hybrid work, requiring 3 days in the office.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, infrastructure, cloud, DevOps, or platform engineering.
• 5+ years hands-on DevOps experience.
• 3+ years in SRE or production operations managing large-scale systems.
• CI/CD, containers: Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm.
• Observability: monitoring with Dynatrace/Grafana/Prometheus/Azure Monitor; scripting in Python/PowerShell/Bash/C#/Java.

Responsibilities

• Platform Engineering & IaC: Design and build cloud-native infrastructure, automated provisioning workflows, and reusable deployment templates.
• DevOps & DevSecOps: Build CI/CD pipelines with integrated automated testing and security controls for secure releases and rollback capabilities.
• Site Reliability & Observability: Establish SLIs, SLOs, SLAs; reduce MTTR via logging, metrics, and alerting; lead incident response.
• Cloud Operations & Cost Optimization: Manage HA and DR setups while optimizing performance, security, and cloud spend.
• Leadership & Strategy: Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and champion engineering best practices.
