Placements24 is seeking a Senior Analytical Chemist for its client in Kimberley, South Africa. The role focuses on developing, validating, and implementing analytical methods for materials, in-process samples, and finished pharmaceutical products, ensuring GMP/GLP compliance.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in analytical chemistry, strong HPLC/GC/MS experience, and data analysis proficiency. A PhD or MSc in Analytical Chemistry is preferred. Relocation support may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods for pharmaceutical materials and products.
• Perform routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, dissolution.
• Maintain instruments with calibration and troubleshooting.
• Review data, notebooks, and reports to ensure GLP/GMP compliance.
• Lead CAPAs and drive continuous improvement in QC and analytical development.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods for the characterization and quantification of pharmaceutical substances.
• Perform routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using techniques such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, and dissolution testing.
• Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation, ensuring proper calibration and performance.
• Troubleshoot analytical methods and instrumentation issues.
• Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
• Review and approve analytical data, laboratory notebooks, and reports.
• Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., ICH, FDA).
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the analytical development and quality control departments.
• Train and mentor junior analytical chemists.
• Stay current with advancements in analytical chemistry and pharmaceutical regulations.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in analytical chemistry, with a significant focus on pharmaceutical quality control.
• Proven expertise in method development and validation using techniques such as HPLC, GC, MS, and spectroscopy.
• Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical quality systems and regulatory requirements (e.g., GMP, GLP).
• Experience with dissolution testing, Karl Fischer titration, and other relevant QC techniques.
• Proficiency in data analysis software and laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
• Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
• Must possess the legal right to work in South Africa .
