Job summary

Absa Group is seeking an AI Platform Engineer (Cloud) to design, build, operate, and optimise a multi-cloud AI infrastructure powering the bank’s enterprise AI capability. You will ensure governance, security, observability, and cost management across four business units and ten countries.

The role demands strong cloud engineering, FinOps discipline, and cross-functional collaboration in an agile environment.

Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or equivalent.
Cloud certification: AWS Solutions Architect Professional, AWS Machine Learning Specialty, or Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate.
FinOps Foundation Certified Practitioner (FOCP) or equivalent AI cost governance credential.
Security Certification: CCSP or AWS Security Specialty.
IaC Certification: Terraform Associate or equivalent infrastructure-as-code credential.
Experience in regulated financial services with model risk governance and change management obligations.

Responsibilities

Lead design, deployment and optimisation of a multi-cloud AI platform stack across AWS Bedrock, Databricks AI, Azure AI Foundry and Hugging Face.
Own AI compute cost governance, cost models, chargeback/showback, and monthly per-use-case reporting.
Define AI platform SLAs/OLAs and manage observability tooling for production AI workloads.
Design zero-trust security architecture, data residency controls, and threat modelling for AI deployments.
Lead agentic AI infrastructure and multi-agent orchestration patterns.
Ensure infrastructure-as-code standards and end-to-end platform quality and governance.
