Placements24 is seeking a skilled Wireless Network Engineer with a specialization in 5G technologies for its Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape operations. This hybrid role combines on-site fieldwork and remote work to deploy and optimize 5G networks.

You will design, implement, and tune 5G core and RAN elements, conduct RF planning, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure reliable coverage and performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in wireless network engineering, with a strong focus on 5G technologies.
• In-depth understanding of 5G NR, LTE, and associated core network technologies (e.g., SA/NSA deployments).
• Proficiency in RF planning tools, network simulation software, and performance analysis techniques.
• Experience with wireless network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
• Knowledge of IP networking, TCP/IP and related protocols.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model, balancing office and remote duties.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CWNA, 5G certifications) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, configure, and maintain 5G core and RAN (Radio Access Network) elements.
• Conduct site surveys, RF planning, and optimization to ensure optimal wireless network performance and coverage.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex wireless network issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Monitor network performance using specialized tools and analyze data to identify areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including field technicians, project managers, and operations staff, to ensure successful network deployments and upgrades.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in 5G technology, cellular standards, and related protocols.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including design blueprints, configuration guides, and performance reports.
• Participate in capacity planning and network evolution initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to network security best practices and implement relevant security measures.
• Support the integration of new wireless technologies and services into the existing network infrastructure.
