Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Security Operations Engineer to join our team in Vereeniging, Gauteng. The role focuses on deploying and maintaining security tools, monitoring threats, and responding to incidents to safeguard systems.

The candidate will work hands-on with SIEM, firewalls, and endpoint security, collaborating with IT teams and participating in threat hunting to enhance defenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IT or related field.
• 3–5 years in security operations or related role.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar, ELK).
• Experience configuring firewalls and IDS/IPS.
• Scripting in Python or PowerShell is a plus.
• Based in or willing to relocate to Vereeniging.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain security tools and technologies, including SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint security solutions.
• Monitor security alerts and events, performing initial triage and investigation of potential security incidents.
• Develop and refine security monitoring rules and signatures to improve threat detection capabilities.
• Respond to security incidents by following established procedures, including containment, eradication, and recovery.
• Conduct regular vulnerability scans and assist in the remediation of identified vulnerabilities.
• Contribute to the development and updating of security operational procedures and documentation.
• Collaborate with IT infrastructure and application teams to ensure security best practices are implemented.
• Participate in threat hunting activities to proactively identify and address emerging threats.
• Provide technical support for security-related issues.
