Job summary

Octotel in South Africa is seeking a hands-on Fibre Installation Technician to support our growing Open Access network in Bredasdorp. You will install fibre optic links, monitor on-site performance, and liaise between Octotel and clients to ensure smooth deployments.

The role requires physical fitness, a Grade 12 or equivalent, and a valid Code 8 driver''s license, with 1 year minimum experience in fibre installations. CFOT is advantageous, and you will work in a field-based, outdoor environment.

Qualifications

• Matric/Grade 12 or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 3 years of fibre installation experience.
• CFOT certificate is advantageous.
• Valid Code 8 driver’s license is required.
• Must be physically fit for outdoor field work.

Responsibilities

• Install fibre optic networks as required.
• On-site monitoring and liaison between Octotel and clients.
• Prepare Detailed Site Plans (DSPs) for new installations.
• Install network infrastructure according to DSPs.
• Prepare and submit As Built Documentation for completed work.
• Monitor and maintain stock and vehicle logbook.
• Assist with general office maintenance as needed.
• Conduct flyer drops and door-to-door canvassing to promote fibre availability.

Key Responsibilities

• Installation of Fibre optic networks
• On site monitoring, support and being the liaison between Octotel & the client
• Prepare DSP’s (Detailed Site Plans) for new fibre and wireless site installations
• Install the network infrastructure and equipment as per provided DSP’s
• Preparing and submitting of As Built Documentation for each completed installation
• Monitor and maintain boot stock for installation team vehicles.
• Responsible for the electrical and hand tool inventory to be used for onsite installations.
• Company Vehicle - maintenance and repairing, updating of Logbook, arranging collections and deliveries
• Assisting in general office maintenance required by management
• Conducting flyer drops in targeted areas to promote fibre network coverage and drive customer sign-ups
• Door-to-door knocking to inform residents of fibre availability, answer queries and generate leads for connections
• Any other reasonable task as required by management

Requirements

• Matric Certificate or equivalent.
• A minimum of 3 years' experience performing fibre installations.
• A CFOT certificate is advantageous.
• Ability to use power tools safely and effectively.
• Valid code 8 Drivers License.
• This role involves hands-on, active work and requires a good level of physical fitness to carry out tasks effectively, including extended periods of walking and standing during flyer drops and door-to-door canvassing.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage confidently with residents and potential customers during door-to-door activities.
• Comfortable working outdoors and covering assigned areas on foot as required.
