Job summary

Valterra Platinum in South Africa's Limpopo region seeks a Rock Engineering professional based in Thabazimbi to ensure optimum Strata Control standards. You will conduct underground visits, monitor conditions, audit supports, and assist in reporting and training operations personnel.

This role focuses on coordinating Rock Engineering projects, implementing new support technologies, maintaining monitoring systems, and ensuring safety and compliance across mining sections in a high-performance,

Qualifications

• Grade 12 with Maths & Science.
• COM Strata Control Officer Theory Paper advantageous.

Job Description

Achievement of optimum Strata Control Standards:

• To undertake regular underground visits to monitor compliance to the Codes of Practice and Support Standards and Procedures and to identify areas with possible strata control problems.
• Monitor underground conditions and report to the Strata Control Officer.
• Guideline supervision in standards for section safety and performance.
• Audit mining standards for support and pillars to ensure conformance.
• Participation in the investigation of relevant Rock Engineering related incidents and accidents.
• Support the Strata Control Officer with rock engineering information to compile reports.
• Do regular RMRs during underground visits to build up a database.
• Gives training to the operations personnel in basic Hazard Identification.
• Monitors and reports stability of underground workings.
• Coordinate and manage Rock Engineering projects, trials and the implementation of new support technologies, including planning, underground trials, change management, training, operational roll-out and close-out.
• Monitor and coordinate the health and functionality of Rock Engineering monitoring systems, including the seismic monitoring network, fault identification, troubleshooting, servicing and system upgrades.
• Coordinate the implementation of Rock Engineering support initiatives and standards across mining sections, including engagement with Mining, Training, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders.
• Manage the administrative and commercial requirements associated with Rock Engineering projects, including material requirements, stock-code applications, procurement requests, invoicing, supplier liaison and tracking of project expenditure.
• Maintain Rock Engineering project, compliance and technical information systems, including tracking action plans, compiling reports and presentations, maintaining supporting documentation and preparing evidence for internal and external audits.

• COM Strata Control Officer Theory Paper will be advantageous
