Job summary

RPO Recruitment is seeking an experienced Design Civil Engineer to join its civil infrastructure team in Gauteng. You will lead the design and delivery of roads, stormwater, earthworks, water and sewer systems, leveraging Civil 3D and IDAS.

The role emphasizes leadership, technical reporting, and collaboration with other disciplines, site visits, and client presentations. A BEng/BTech and Pr. Eng./Pr. Tech. registration are required, with at least five years of hands-on design office experience.

Qualifications

• BEng or BTech in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 5+ years' experience in civil design.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. or Pr. Tech.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D (corridors, assemblies, surfaces, pipe networks, quantities).
• Strong working knowledge of IDAS.
• Experience in road design (rehabilitation and new construction), stormwater drainage and management, bulk earthworks, gravity pipelines, and pressurised water and sewer pipelines.
• Valid driver''s license and own transport.

Responsibilities

• Lead the geometric and detailed design of roads, including alignments, cross-sections, intersections, and pavement design.
• Design stormwater management and drainage systems (networks, ponds, channels, culverts, hydraulic modelling).
• Undertake bulk earthworks design, balancing and optimisation for large projects.
• Design gravity and pressurised pipelines for water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure.
• Undertake hydraulic analysis and profile design for pipelines.
• Prepare detailed engineering design reports and contract documentation.
• Coordinate designs with structural, geotechnical, electrical, and other disciplines.
• Provide technical guidance, support, and mentoring to junior engineers.
• Attend site visits, design meetings, and client presentations.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer with proven experience in the design and delivery of roads, stormwater, bulk earthworks, water and sewer infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be a professionally registered Civil Engineer / Technologist with strong design-office experience and a proven track record in civil infrastructure. Particular emphasis will be placed on advanced Civil 3D and IDAS capability, together with hands‑on experience in roads, stormwater, bulk earthworks, water, and sewer infrastructure

The successful candidate will take a leading role in developing high-quality civil infrastructure designs, technical documentation, drawings, and contract documentation, with AutoCAD Civil 3D and IDAS forming an important part of the design environment.

• Provide technical guidance, support, and mentoring to junior engineers.

• Ensure all designs comply with applicable South African standards and local authority requirements.

Minimum Requirements

• BEng / BTech in Civil Engineering.
• Minimum 5+ years' relevant experience.
• Professional registration as Pr. Eng. / Pr. Tech.
