Job summary

Santam is seeking an experienced Risk Manager to join our Johannesburg-based team on a permanent basis. The Risk Manager will support the Head of ERM to monitor Santam Specialist Solutions’ risk profile, enabling identification of emerging risks through frameworks, policies, and tools.

Responsibilities include embedding risk management processes, coordinating risk reporting for the Risk Committee, and analyzing data to drive proactive risk management and escalation across the Santam group.

Qualifications

• Completed degree in Business and/or Risk Management.
• 5 years Risk Management experience.
• Audit experience will be an advantage.
• Underwriting experience in short term insurance will be an advantage.

Santam is seeking an experienced Risk Manager to join our Johannesburg based team on a permanent basis.

The Risk Manager will support the Head of ERM to monitor the overall risk profile of Santam Specialist Solutions, by enabling the identification of emerging risks in daily operation of the business. This will be achieved by providing oversight in the form of frameworks, policies, tools, and techniques to support appropriate risk management and control in the first line. Appropriate challenge is required to ensure that management has implemented the control framework appropriately, and that it operates effectively.

What will you do?

Assist Santam Specialist Solutions business units in embedding a risk management process to identify, mitigate, monitor, report and elevate key strategic and operational risks within the parameters of the Boards risk appetite.

What will make you successful in this role?

• Support the Head of ERM in monitoring Santam Specialist Solutions’s risk profile to ensure that key risks are managed, relevant action taken and adequate controls have been implemented by management.
• Overall coordination and aggregation of all key risks within Santam Specialist Solutions for Risk Committee reporting purposes in order to provide a summary and overview of Santam Specialist Solutions’s key risks
• Analyse risk, control, and business data to identify areas suitable for continuous monitoring and early warning indicators, supporting the proactive management of risks and timely escalation of emerging issues.
• Obtain a good understanding of the external and internal business environment, including strategic and operational goals in order to evaluate and identify any new and emerging risks
• Obtain and aggregate loss events occurring throughout the Santam group.
• Strong underwriting experience within the short-term insurance industry, with the ability to assess underwriting risks and provide meaningful challenge and insight on risk exposures.

Qualification and experience

• Completed degree in Business and/or Risk Management
• 5 years Risk Management experience

Audit experience will be an advantage

Underwriting experience in short term insurance will be an advantage
