Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly analytical Upstream Data Scientist to join a fully remote team. You will leverage ML/AI to drive insights across exploration and production, working with seismic, well logs, and production data to build predictive models and optimize processes.

Requirements include a Master's/PhD in a quantitative field, 5+ years of upstream data science experience, and proficiency in Python or R, Spark, and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist in upstream oil and gas.
• Proficiency in Python or R and libraries like scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch.
• Experience with big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong understanding of ML algorithms, statistical modeling, and data mining techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement ML models for production forecasting, anomaly detection, and reservoir characterization.
• Analyze large-scale upstream datasets to identify trends and opportunities.
• Build data pipelines and ensure data quality for analytics projects.
• Collaborate with geoscientists and engineers to translate challenges into data science problems.
• Communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders via visualizations and reports.
• Stay current with advances in data science, AI, and their energy applications.
