Placements24 is hiring a Remote Telecommunications Network Engineer to design, implement and maintain scalable networks for a global team. The role is fully remote with the opportunity to work from George, Western Cape and across time zones.

You will lead network design, deployment and optimization, while coordinating with vendors and teams worldwide. Strong problem solving, scripting and communication skills are essential for success in a remote setup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering, with a strong focus on design and implementation.
• In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching technologies, and network security principles.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy complex telecommunications network solutions, including IP networking, MPLS, DWDM, and cellular technologies.
• Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to ensure high availability and low latency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve network incidents, performing root cause analysis and implementing permanent solutions.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
• Collaborate with vendors and service providers to evaluate and integrate new technologies.
• Stay abreast of emerging trends and advancements in telecommunications and network engineering.
• Participate in on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical network issues.
• Ensure network security best practices are implemented and maintained across all infrastructure.
• Manage network capacity planning and forecasting to meet future demand.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers as needed.
