Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of complex energy storage systems, ensuring optimal performance, safety, and reliability.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and comprehensive Bill of Materials (BOMs) for components and assemblies.
• Perform advanced engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, thermal, and vibration studies, and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) where applicable.
• Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and product managers, utilizing virtual communication and collaboration platforms.
• Define material specifications, select key components, and work with external vendors and manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility and quality.
• Develop and maintain thorough technical documentation, design reports, and product specifications.
• Drive innovation by researching and implementing new technologies and design methodologies.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on the team.
• Support the transition of designs into manufacturing, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
• Actively participate in virtual design reviews, team meetings, and technical discussions.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong background in energy systems, power electronics, or related technologies.
• Expert proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS, Inventor, CATIA) and advanced FEA/CFD analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL).
• Demonstrated experience in managing complex design projects from concept to production.
• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, essential for remote collaboration.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting.
• Experience with thermal management, vibration analysis, and material selection for demanding environments.
• Must be eligible to work remotely and legally in South Africa.
