Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Environmental Engineer to lead EIAs and environmental compliance for projects across South Africa in a fully remote capacity.

You will conduct baseline studies, risk assessments, develop mitigation measures, and prepare comprehensive reports while liaising with regulatory authorities remotely, drawing on 8+ years of consulting experience and deep knowledge of SA environmental laws such as NEMA.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in environmental consulting, with strong focus on EIAs.
• Proven ability to manage complex environmental projects remotely.
• In-depth knowledge of South African environmental legislation (e.g., NEMA).
• Proficiency in environmental modeling software and GIS tools.
• Excellent report writing, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills in a virtual setting.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the process of EIAs and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs).
• Conduct baseline studies, risk assessments, and develop mitigation measures for environmental impacts.
• Ensure projects comply with national and provincial environmental laws and regulations.
• Prepare comprehensive environmental reports, review documents, and liaise with regulatory authorities remotely.
• Provide expert environmental advice and guidance to project teams, clients, and stakeholders.
• Monitor environmental performance and advise on corrective actions to ensure sustainability.
