Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Energy Systems Analyst for a fully remote role based in South Africa. You will model and optimize energy systems, work across engineering, data science, and project management teams, and contribute to renewable energy solutions.

Requirements include a quantitative engineering or physics degree and 5+ years in energy systems. Proficiency in PVSyst/HOMER/SAM and Python/MATLAB/R is expected. Excellent communication and remote-work skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a quantitative field (Engineering, Physics, etc.).
• 5+ years of experience in energy systems analysis, power systems, or renewable projects.
• Proficiency with energy-modelling tools: PVSyst/HOMER/SAM.
• Strong coding skills in Python/MATLAB/R for data analysis and simulation.
• Solid understanding of grid operations, power markets, and regulatory contexts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present data clearly.
• Ability to work independently and in a remote team.
• Experience with energy storage or smart grids is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain energy system models using industry tools and scripts.
• Analyze consumption, generation, and grid integration for renewables.
• Conduct techno-economic feasibility studies and financial modeling.
• Evaluate performance of existing assets and identify improvements.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and recommendations.
• Collaborate with data science teams to include ML forecasts and optimization.
• Stay updated on energy tech, market trends, and regulations.
• Support proposals with technical input during BD activities.
