Placements24 is recruiting a Senior Environmental Health & Safety Officer to develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive EHS programs with a focus on sanitation and public health. This remote role supports nationwide operations, ensuring regulatory compliance and effective risk management across all facilities.

The position requires a minimum of 6 years in EHS, strong knowledge of SA legislation, and the ability to translate complex EHS requirements into actionable guidance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management, with a focus on sanitation, public health, or facility hygiene.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing comprehensive EHS programs and policies.
• In-depth knowledge of South African EHS legislation and regulatory frameworks (e.g., OHSA Act, National Environmental Management Act).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and risk assessment skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in using digital collaboration tools, EHS management software, and standard office applications.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote work setting.
• A relevant tertiary qualification (Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Public Health, or related science).
• Professional certifications (e.g., SACPCMP, SAIOH) are highly advantageous.

Responsabilités

• Develop and implement robust environmental health and safety policies and procedures, focusing on sanitation and hygiene across the organization.
• Conduct remote risk assessments and audits of operational sites based on data, virtual tours, and reports.
• Ensure compliance with national and local EHS regulations, including public health and workplace safety.
• Investigate EHS incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver training on EHS and sanitation best practices for remote and on-site staff.
• Stay current with industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in EHS and sanitation management.
• Collaborate with operations, facilities management, and HR to integrate EHS principles into daily practices.
• Maintain comprehensive EHS records in a secure digital environment.
• Provide expert guidance to management and staff on EHS matters.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of the EHS management system.
