Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to drive innovation in financial risk analytics. This remote role in South Africa requires deep expertise in quantitative finance, ML, and statistical modeling.

You will work with massive datasets, build end-to-end pipelines, and collaborate across risk, business, and tech teams to strengthen risk management and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has a PhD or Master’s in a quantitative field and 6+ years of experience in financial risk

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in a quantitative field such as Statistics, Mathematics, CS, or Economics
• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist focusing on financial risk analytics
• Proven expertise in statistical modeling, ML algorithms, and experimental design

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy advanced statistical and ML models for credit, market, and operational risk
• Perform exploratory data analysis on large datasets to uncover risk-relevant patterns
• Build and maintain robust data pipelines for model training and inference
• Collaborate with risk management, business, and tech teams to define DS requirements
• Validate and back-test model performance and regulatory compliance
• Present complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
