Placements24 is seeking an experienced Senior Cheminformatics Specialist to join a dynamic R&D team. The role primarily operates remotely with occasional requirements in Pretoria, contributing to drug discovery through computational methods.

You will design workflows integrating diverse datasets, apply QSAR and modeling techniques, and collaborate with chemists and biologists to guide lead optimization and target identification.

Qualifications

• PhD or Master's degree in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proficiency with cheminformatics software and toolkits (e.g., RDKit, MOE, Schrödinger).
• Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages.
• Experience with databases and data management for chemical information.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and tools for drug discovery projects.
• Apply QSAR and other computational modeling techniques to predict compound activity and properties.
• Design and execute virtual screening campaigns.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists and biologists to guide compound design and selection.
• Visualize and analyze chemical structure-activity relationships.
• Ensure the quality and integrity of chemical data and computational analyses.
