Placements24 seeks an experienced Mine Ventilation Engineer to join a fully remote team. You will design, analyze and optimize ventilation for underground mines, focusing on air quality, temperature and energy efficiency while supporting safety and productivity.

The role requires a Master’s degree in Mining or Mechanical Engineering, 8+ years in mine ventilation, and strong VentSim modeling, thermodynamics and remote collaboration skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent in Mining/Mechanical Engineering with ventilation specialization.
• 8+ years of experience in mine ventilation engineering, preferably in underground hard rock mining.
• Proven ability with ventilation network modeling and simulations.
• Strong knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
• Knowledge of South African MHSA Acts regulations pertaining to ventilation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize mine ventilation systems for underground mines.
• Conduct ventilation surveys and simulations to assess air quality and thermal conditions.
• Develop ventilation network models using VentSim software.
• Identify and mitigate hazards like dust, gases, and heat.
• Recommend strategies to improve ventilation efficiency and reduce energy use.
• Ensure compliance with mine ventilation regulations and standards.
• Prepare detailed ventilation reports, plans, and specifications.
• Collaborate remotely with mine planning, safety, and operations teams.
• Provide guidance on ventilation infrastructure, fan selection, and controls.
• Stay updated on advances in mine ventilation technology.
