Placements24 seeks an exceptional Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join a globally recognized mining consultancy on a fully remote basis, ideally SA-based. You will guide investigations, slope stability analyses, and ground support design for mining projects worldwide.

You will lead a remote team, collaborate with project managers and operations, and uphold safety and technical excellence. Seniority requires extensive geotechnical and mentoring experience.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive geotechnical experience, with mining sector exposure.
• Proven ability to lead project teams and mentor junior engineers.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software Rocscience, FLAC, and GeoStudio.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to present complex technical information clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical investigations and studies for mining projects.
• Perform advanced geotechnical analyses including slope stability and seismic assessments.
• Develop and implement ground support designs for underground and open-pit mining.
• Conduct risk assessments of geological hazards and mitigation.

This senior role will provide expert guidance on geotechnical investigations, slope stability analysis, ground support design, and risk assessment for mining projects globally. You will lead a remote team of geotechnical engineers, collaborate with project managers and operational teams, and ensure the highest standards of safety and technical excellence. This is a crucial position for an individual looking to leverage their expertise in a leading role within a globally recognized mining consultancy.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geotechnical investigations and studies for mining projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
• Perform advanced geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, rock mechanics, and seismic assessments.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and strategies for underground and open-pit mining operations.
• Conduct risk assessments related to geological hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
• Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers, fostering technical development and project execution skills.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to provide expert geotechnical input.
• Ensure all work adheres to international best practices and relevant South African standards where applicable.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering , with significant experience in the mining sector.
• Proven experience in leading project teams and providing technical mentorship.
• Expertise in geotechnical software packages (e.g., Rocscience suite, FLAC, GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and underground/open-pit mining methods.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
